MR compatible spirometer

چکیده
Introduction: MR compatible spirometer is needed for (i) monitoring of anaesthetized patients and (ii) sequence synchronization and/or image reconstruction. Patient motion is likely to induce motion artifacts (ghosting) in image thus reducing its quality during MRI acquisitions. When breath-hold acquisitions are not possible, as for uncooperative children, an alternative technique is proposed, including anesthesia and artificial breath-hold during image acquisition. This technique involves risks. An alternative to this technique for gating is the measurement of inspired or expired volume of air, with or without associated ECG gating. Furthermore, information about exact air flow could be useful for studying cardiorespiratory interactions. An MR compatible spirometer was integrated on a respiratory mask to have an accurate control of patient’s air flow and lung volume. The proposed sensor could be connected to the respirator in order to monitor patients during MRI examination.

Magnetic resonance-compatible-spirometry: principle, technical evaluation and application.
The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility and accuracy of a novel magnetic resonance-compatible (MRc)-spirometer. The influence of body posture, magnetic resonance (MR)-setting and image acquisition on lung function was evaluated. Dynamic MR imaging (dMRI) was compared with simultaneously measured lung function. The development of the MRc-spirometer was based on a commercial spiromete...

We studied the usefulness of an MR imaging-compatible electroencephalography (EEG) electrode system for continuous EEG recordings in our epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) by comparing 100 consecutive patients with MR imaging-compatible and MR imaging-incompatible EEG recording electrodes who underwent MR imaging between 3:00 pm and 7:00 am. The MR imaging-compatible system captured seizures in 21/...
متن کاملApplication of the spirometer in respiratory gated radiotherapy.
The signal from a spirometer is directly correlated with respiratory motion and is ideal for target respiratory motion tracking. However, its susceptibility to signal drift deters its application in radiotherapy. In this work, a few approaches are investigated to control spirometer signal drift for a Bernoulli-type spirometer. A method is presented for rapid daily calibration of the spirometer ...
متن کاملAdvancements in magnetic resonance-guided robotic interventions in the prostate.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides more detailed anatomical images of the prostate compared with the transrectal ultrasound imaging. Therefore, for the purpose of intervention in the prostate gland, diagnostic or therapeutic, MRI guidance offers a possibility of more precise targeting that may be crucial to the success of prostate interventions. However, access within the scanner is limi...

Objectives—To assess the magnitude of error in pulmonary function measurements introduced by variation in spirometer temperature under field conditions. In a large scale epidemiological study of school children, the influence was investigated of spirometer temperature on forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) measured with dry rolling seal volumetric spirometers and conventional body tempe...
